    Florida Vacation Recap

The last 2 weeks of March 2008 hubby and I spent camping at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds (owned by Disney) in Kissimmee Florida. It was fun. Weather was great – mid 70s most days, low 60s most nights. One day was upper 70’s – we went to Typhoon Lagoon. Camping was good. The campgrounds are really nice, we went rollerblading several mornings. Saw lots of deer, ducks, and a few alligators at the campgrounds. Disney transportation can be slow. Monorails rock, buses are boring. Food was awesome – from grilled burgers at campsite to English pub at Epcot we ate well. Memorial was huge – 8 congregations met together at a convention center, attendance over 2500.

    Quick Overview:

Favorite ride: Rock-n-Rollin’ Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios (MGM) just slightly beat out Everest at Animal Kingdom
Favorite park:Epcot, but I really enjoyed all of them.
Latest night: We made it until 2:30 AM at Magic Kingdom.
Earliest morning: got to Hollywood studios before they opened (early day for Disney guests)
Favorite Dinner: Tamarind Chicken at Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom
Best dessert: Mickey ice cream cones at the park (I think I had 3 of them)
Best souvenir: 4 small dinosaurs I won in a carnival game at Animal Kingdom.
Best thing about camping: saving money! and fresh air.
Worst thing about camping: having to walk a couple hundred yards in the middle of the night when you have to go to the bathroom.

    jacksonville beach

Jacksonville? Where? At least it was warm. Unseasonably warm. In the beginning of January Sherzy had the privilege of flying to sunny Jacksonville (location of the upcoming Superbowl) for work reasons. Sherzy left on a Wednesday morning when the temperature in MN was about 15 degrees, to arrive to a humid 72 in Jacksonville. Not bad. And there was a beach. Thursday and Friday were spent working, but Saturday allowed Sherzy several uninterrupted hours at the beach, even time to participate in a couple games of beach volleyball! A very slight tan was acquired, but unfortunately it has quickly faded. Hopefully soon Sherzy will be able to return to a warm, sunny place!

    new york

In the middle of December the Hubby traveled to New York City, NY for work. He was to be there for 2 whole weeks, so his company was kind enough to fly Sherzy out to spend the weekend in NYC. She took a Friday and Monday off, so there would be time for shopping. He ended up with a suite at the Drake (the Gideon’s did not stamp the Bible!) which was very nice, although the fact that he fell sick that weekend was not fun. They still managed to make it to a Broadway musical, Movin’ Out, which was excellent, as well as have wonderful sushi with friends Sara and Jason, and even visit the zoo in Central Park. Sherzy enjoyed shopping and a manicure in Trump Tower, but did not enjoy coming home with the same sickness Hubby had.

    vail

In early December Sherzy and Hubby went to Vail, CO for a ski vacation. It was early season, so rates were cheap, and they took advantage of it! Ski-in, ski-out lodging for unbelievable prices, buy one day, get one day free lift passes. And the snow was good! Back bowls were not yet open, which made Sherzy very unhappy, but there was plenty to do on the front side. Many interesting encounters in the gondola and excellent dinners at nearby restaurants. Sherzy came home with new (to her) skis even!
