Kitchen Favorite: Not So Sloppy Joes

    • 16-20 oz ground turkey
    • 1 medium onion
    • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 to 2 bottles not so sloppy (it all depends on how sloppy you like your joes)

Brown turkey with onion and garlic, add sauce. It’s as easy as that!

    Do Women Write Better Code?

I like this article by Rebecca Buckman, Men Write Code from Mars, Women Write More Helpful Code from Venus, and I totally agree. Not that I have worked with a lot of bad code per say, but comments sure do help. I like this:

They’ll intersperse their code–those strings of instructions that result in nifty applications and programs–with helpful comments and directions, explaining why they wrote the lines the way they did and exactly how they did it. The code becomes a type of “roadmap” for others who might want to alter it or add to it later.

I have definately worked with code like this:

Men, on the other hand, often try to show how clever they are by writing very cryptic code.

To be fair, I have seen great code written by both genders, and not so great code written by both. But I have worked with far more men than women programmers so it is hard to compare.

    Boot camp

Its been a busy week – I am taking a 2 week boot camp – two weeks of 6am workouts, alternating between circuit training and strength training. This morning’s workout was the hardest yet, but I survived it. I though getting up at 5:30 would be difficult; while its not easy, it isn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

  • I didn’t recognize you

Somehow or other I ended up telling this story at lunch today (those readers who know what I am talking about when I say “assembly” will find this particularly funny)

When I was 16 or 17 I was at an assembly in Wilmar with some friends. We were staying at a hotel, and like many hotels it had a pool and hot tub. So in the evening we went and hung out in there. Most people staying at the hotel were also going to the assembly, we soon found ourselves sitting in the hot tub chatting with some people we had just met.

Next morning rolls around, we get ready and go to the assembly. Everyone dressed up of course – suits and dresses. My friend Caralyn, who is rather loud and boisterous, sees a couple of the guys we met the night before when in the hot tub and loudly proclaims, “Oh, I didn’t recognize you with your clothes on!” Needless to say she got some interesting looks.
